Albert Stuart Simpson

Private, Company B, 319th Infantry, 80th Division

     Albert was born the 9th of June 1923 in Worcester, Massachusetts the oldest son of Herrick and May Simpson.  He was a graduate of South High School in Worcester and attended Massachusetts State College while working at the Norton Company in Worcester, Massachusetts.  He made his home with his parents at Elm Street Extension in Marlborough for one year before joining the Army the 15th of February 1943.

     He was sent to Camp Hale, Colorado the 1st of May 1943 and assigned to Company E, 86th Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division.  He was transferred in August of 1943 to Company A, 90th Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division.  He received training on skis as well as in combat operations in weather up to thirty degrees below zero.  Albert was next sent to Camp Phillips, Kansas and assigned to Company B, 319th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division.  Albert departed for Europe in June of 1944 and participated in numerous battles beginning with landing in Normandy at Utah Beach the 5th of August 1944 and the drive across France.

     He was wounded in action in the fall and returned to his Regiment shortly before Christmas 1944. He was Killed in Action the 8th of January 1945 in Luxembourg during the Battle of the Bulge.  His grave is located in Hope Cemetery in Worcester, Massachusetts.  Simpson Road in Marlborough is named in his honor.
